A weekend before this year's Big Ten hockey tournament begins, the final weekend of the regular season flashes back to the finale of last year's tournament. This week's slate includes a rematch of last year's conference championship, with No. 8 Minnesota (19-8-5, 12-6-4 Big Ten) hosting No. 16 Michigan (17-12-3, 10-10-2 Big Ten) for a pair of games at 3M Arena at Mariucci starting on Friday night. In that game last year, second seed Michigan narrowly knocked off top seed Minnesota 4-3, winning its second tournament championship in a row and third since the Big Ten began holding a conference hockey tournament in 2014.

While these weekends games won't hold as much weight as that meeting last year, they're still certainly significant. Coming into the weekend Minnesota sits in third place in the conference, but is only three points up on fourth-place Michigan. Michigan also is in danger of falling to fifth place with losses this weekend, with the Wolverines currently just three points up on Notre Dame.
These teams also met earlier this year in Ann Arbor, back in mid-November. Minnesota won the first of those two games 4-3, before the two sides played to a 2-2 tie the next night.
Puck drop on Friday night is set for 8:30 p.m. ET. Coverage of the game can be found on the Big Ten Network.
